Story
Doug is the engineer, builder and technical mind behind Travel | Build | Repeat. A software engineer with a lifelong background in building and working with his hands, he’s the person who wants to understand how something works, why it was designed that way and whether it actually does what it promises. His experience crosses two very different worlds. He builds software, applications and digital systems, but he’s also spent years in construction and as a master mason. That combination gives him an unusual perspective: he understands technology, but he also understands materials, tools, craftsmanship and what it means for something to work in the real world. At TBR, Doug works both behind the scenes and as part of the creative process — helping capture footage, solve production challenges, evaluate technology and products, and bring a more analytical point of view to a story. Like Aliz, he can also step in front of the camera when the concept calls for it, but he doesn’t need to be the face of every campaign. He’s particularly valuable for technology, electronics, software, connectivity, tools, automotive, travel gear and products where specifications and real-world performance actually matter. Rather than repeating a list of features, Doug can help translate those features into what they mean for someone actually using the product. That difference in perspective also creates one of TBR’s natural storytelling combinations: Aliz approaches something as a creator and consumer; Doug approaches the same thing as an engineer and builder. Sometimes they agree. Sometimes they absolutely don’t. Doug doesn’t just ask whether something looks good on camera. He wants to know whether it’s built well enough to earn a place in the Rover.
Personality
Analytical, detail-oriented, practical and endlessly curious about how things work. Doug is the person who will read the specifications, notice the construction, question the design and probably figure out how something works before anyone has finished reading the instructions. He’s technically minded without needing everything to become a technical lecture. His dry humor and practical approach are a natural counterbalance to Aliz’s instinctive, story-first perspective — which makes their different reactions part of the content rather than something that needs to be edited out. Doug appreciates things that are well designed, well engineered and genuinely useful. Impressing him usually takes more than good packaging.
